Master of Nursing
The Master of Nursing Study Program at Universitas Brawijaya commenced in 2011 with Higher Education Mandate Decree No. 716/E/T/2011, marking its status as the pioneer in Indonesia to offer the Master of Nursing Science (MNS) degree. The primary objective of this program is to elevate the competence and academic as well as practical capabilities of nurses within the nursing field.
In its initial phase, the program exclusively concentrated on Medical-Surgical Nursing. Nevertheless, as time progressed, it embraced new concentrations encompassing Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Community Nursing, and Maternity Nursing.
This program remains in a constant state of refinement and development to cater to the dynamic workforce demands and the ever-expanding knowledge landscape of nursing within Indonesia. Over the years, the Master of Nursing Study Program at Universitas Brawijaya has bestowed its expertise upon thousands of nurses who have made substantial contributions to the field of nursing in Indonesia.

The Master of Nursing Study Program aims to generate graduates with competencies to advance the field of nursing through research and community engagement. Graduates are equipped with the ability to create original, innovative, and impactful scientific contributions to the development of nursing in Indonesia.

- Proficiency in innovatively applying nursing knowledge and skills to advance nursing science in Indonesia.

Master of Nursing Program
The admission of new students to the Master of Nursing Study Program considers the following aspects: (1) Academic requirements, (2) Completion of administrative requirements, and (3) Program capacity.
Registration and Selection Process
New student registration opens during odd semesters each year. Detailed information regarding registration, admission selection, and other relevant information can be accessed at https://selma.ub.ac.id/ or by contacting the Secretariat of the Master of Nursing Program at FHS UB. The selection process involves administrative document verification and an entrance examination, including TOEFL, TPA, substantive tests, and interviews.
Academic Requirements for the Master of Nursing Study Program
- Prospective students must hold a Ners degree from accredited State Universities or Private Universities.
- A minimum GPA of ≥75 (on a scale of 0-4) for both the Bachelor and Ners programs.
- The duration of the Bachelor’s and Ners programs should not exceed 7 years for regular programs and 4 years for transfer programs.
Applicants must pass the entrance examination conducted by the Master of Nursing Study Program at FHS UB, which includes a TPA score of ≥450, a TOEFL score of ≥450 or equivalent to IELTS 5.0, successful completion of substantive tests, and an interview.
The lecturers’ qualifications for the Master of Nursing Study Program include the following criteria:
- Holders of a Doctoral degree with a functional position of Professor; or
- Holders of a Doctoral degree with a minimum functional position of Lecturer; or
- When necessary and relevant to their field of expertise, lecturers with a Doctoral degree and a functional position of Assistant Lecturer may be permitted to contribute to teaching as members of the teaching team, in accordance with conditions (a) and (b);
- In cases where it benefits the educational process, the Dean may deviate from the conditions outlined in (a) and (b) by appointing instructors from professional or other fields as members of the teaching team.
- Lecturers are designated by the Dean each semester.
The learning outcomes of the Master of Nursing Study Program, as stipulated in PERMENDIKBUD No. 3 Year 2020 concerning National Higher Education Standards and the Curriculum Book of the Master of Nursing Program by the Association of Indonesian Nursing Education Institutions (AIPNI) for the year 2021, encompass the following:
- Demonstrating professionalism aligned with values and principles related to spirituality, noble ethics, morals, ethics, discipline, law, and socio-cultural factors while fulfilling roles as a researcher, educator, leader, manager, and healthcare professional to enhance the quality of life in society.
- Cultivating logical, critical, systematic, and creative thinking through scientific research, crafting scientific concepts, constructing scientific arguments, and disseminating/communicating these ideas through mass media and scientific journals, catering to both the academic community and the broader public.
- Advancing nursing scientific research and nursing technology, applying evidence-based practice concepts and principles, and innovating to address nursing/healthcare challenges in clinical and community settings, guided by cultural sensitivity, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for the community.
- Fostering effective communication and coordination at individual, organizational, and interprofessional levels, both within academic and non-academic contexts, grounded in cultural sensitivity to improve the quality of life for the community.
- Expanding professional competence through continuous lifelong learning, fostering social consciousness, and embracing environmental awareness.
- Designing creative and innovative clinical and community education/learning programs in nursing and healthcare practices, characterized by cultural sensitivity, to elevate the quality of life for the community.
