One-Day Scientific Writing Bootcamp: Fast Track to Scopus Publication with AI

Malang, February 17, 2025 – The Faculty of Health Sciences at Brawijaya University (FIKES UB) hosted a “One-Day Scientific Writing Bootcamp: Strategies for Accelerating Scopus Publications with AI Tools.” The event featured Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan, STP, M.App.Life Sc., PhD, from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) UB as the keynote speaker. The full-day workshop ran from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB at the Amphitheater Auditorium, Building B, 5th Floor, FIKES UB.

Following FTP UB’s Success in Scopus Publications
The workshop was inspired by FTP UB’s success story in implementing AI-assisted methods to accelerate scientific publications. As a result, over 300 articles have been published in Scopus-indexed journals, with 60% of them indexed in Q1 and Q2. Reflecting on this achievement, Prof. Dian Handayani, S.KM, M.Kes, PhD, Dean of FIKES UB, stated in her opening remarks that FIKES UB aims to replicate this strategy to advance its scientific publication efforts.

Accelerating Publications: From Training to Submission
In his presentation, Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan explained that accelerating publications requires a systematic strategy. This process can be completed within one month, with the following stages:

  1. A one-day training session to understand strategies and the use of AI in scientific writing.
  2. A one-day writing practice using AI tools, specifically for participants who already have research materials and data.
  3. A Submission Day within the following month, where participants are encouraged to finalize and submit their manuscripts to reputable journals.

AI in Academia: Wise and Adaptive Use
The use of AI in academia remains a topic of discussion in the scientific community. Currently, the UB Academic Senate is reviewing the implementation of AI in academic activities. Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan emphasized the importance of using AI wisely and responsibly. He compared this development to the introduction of SPSS in the past. Previously, statistical calculations were done manually, but now almost all academics rely on such software. AI in scientific writing is expected to be a tool that simplifies and speeds up the publication process without compromising academic substance.

Enthusiastic Participation from Lecturers and Master’s Students
The workshop was attended by lecturers and Master’s students working on their thesis research. Through this training, participants are expected to be better prepared in drafting high-quality scientific manuscripts that meet international publication standards.

Supporting UB’s Target of 4000 Scopus Publications by 2025
This initiative aligns with UB Rector’s strategic program, which aims for 4,000 Scopus publications by 2025. It is hoped that through this approach, more UB lecturers and students will be able to publish in high-reputation journals with improved publication quality.

Follow-Up and Future Expectations
As a follow-up to the workshop, the organizing committee and faculty leadership will discuss the next steps to ensure the program’s sustainability. In 2023, FIKES UB held an AI introduction workshop in the health field with speakers from Taiwan. With this bootcamp, FIKES UB further strengthens its commitment to leveraging technology to support scientific publication advancements.

With a spirit of collaboration and innovation, this workshop is expected to be a significant milestone in accelerating the publication rate of FIKES UB’s academic community toward a brighter scientific future.
