The inception of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitas Brawijaya (FHS UB) marked the addition of the 17^th faculty to the university. The establishment of FHS UB began with the formation of a task force dedicated to creating this new faculty in 2019. The transition of Universitas Brawijaya into a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH) at the end of 2021 accelerated the establishment of the Faculty of Health Sciences, which received approval from the Academic Senate of Universitas Brawijaya on December 28, 2021. FHS UB now encompasses two departments: the Nursing Department and the Nutrition Department, both of which were previously integral components of the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Brawijaya (FM UB) for nearly 22 years.

Department of Nursing at FHS UB

The formation of the Department of Nursing can be traced back to its establishment as the Bachelor of Nursing Education Study Program under the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Brawijaya in 1999, formalized through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 236/Dikti/Kep/1999. In 2007, the program evolved into the Department of Nursing, in accordance with Rector’s Decree No. 224/SK/2007. On May 19, 2011, the Department of Nursing at Universitas Brawijaya received authorization from the Directorate General of Higher Education through Decree No. 716/E/T/2011 to introduce a Master’s Program (S2) in Nursing. Subsequently, as stipulated by the University Rector’s Regulation No. 31 Year 2022, the Department of Nursing officially became an integral part of FHS UB.

Department of Nutrition at FHS UB

The Department of Nutrition was started with the introduction of the Diploma IV (D-IV) Nutrition Education Program, implemented from 1997 to 2004 as a collaborative effort between FM UB and the Human Resources Development and Empowerment Agency for Health (BPPSDM Kesehatan), Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. In 2004, the Bachelor of Nutrition (S-1) program formally fell under the auspices of FM UB, as authorized by the Decree of the Minister of National Education No. 1031/J/T/2004. Keeping pace with the dynamic landscape of nutrition science, the Nutrition Study Program introduced the Dietitian program, recognized as Indonesia’s first Nutrition Profession Education Program recognized by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education under Decree No. 407/KPT/I/2016., In accordance with the University Rector’s Regulation No. 31 Year 2022, the Nutrition Study Program underwent a transformation into the Department of Nutrition and seamlessly integrated into the structure of FHS UB.
